A cultural awakening in Calgary –
Pushing play to celebrate Canadian music.

Calgary’s music scene hit a high note in 2016 as the city hosted JUNO Week and the JUNO Awards, and opened Studio Bell, home of the National Music CentreCalgary Arts Development joined forces with Tourism Calgary and a number of other partners to amplify Calgary’s annual slate of major music events and vibrant music scene.

With a successful and remarkable year celebrating music in our city, many of our musical opportunities are here to stay for 2017.

Let’s Push Play and make some noise about music in Calgary!

Visit Studio Bell to learn more about its Artist in Residence Program, where musicians from around the world explore and use the National Music Centre’s collection in the creation of new projects and sounds.

Find our hidden music venue gems across the city, including Wine-Ohs, The Blues Can, The Oak Tree Tavern and Mike’s Jukey Joint. All venues host vibrant music scenes that even some locals aren’t quite in-tune with yet. Stay ahead of the pack and enjoy everything from local indie rock to the best of roots and blues.

You also can’t miss out on Calgary’s Music Mile, the best stretch of musical venues over three inner city communities. The Music Mile has been decades in the making, but finally became official in 2016. It is appropriately described as “…buzzing with musical energy generated by the talented musicians who perform here year round, in all genres, at an extraordinary variety of venues.”
